What you wear makes a difference! So much so that it can change the entire direction of your life. You can speed or slow down your progress simply by what you wear.
One of my mentors has always told me to “dress in the direction of your dreams.”
“The way you dress educates others on how you want to be treated.”
Unfortunately, most people, at least no one that I know has x-ray vision where they can see directly into your character. Naturally, people will look to see how you dress and carry yourself. The way you dress can create or destroy opportunities.
Does this mean go out and buy a bunch of suits and formal wear? No!
It simply means to be aware. Always do your best to look your best. You don’t have to spend extra money but spend the money that you do have on looking your best. It will greatly impact the amount of opportunities that come your way.
Imagine that you were given two gifts. One gift was wrapped in the finest gift wrap paper you could imagine, it was your favorite color, it had a perfect bow tie on it and not one wrinkle whatsoever.
On the other hand, you were given another gift. This gift was wrapped in a brown paper bag. The bag was wrinkled, greasy, and twisted at the top. Yuck!
Which gift would you say is better? I would say the finely wrapped gift. Why take the chance? I haven’t conducted a poll, but I’d think most people would agree.
The brown paper bag could very well be the best gift, but without the ability to see what’s inside we’re left to make the next best conclusion. Likewise, when others see you, they have no way of seeing what’s inside, they can only make the next best conclusion.
As we mentioned in the Start Smart Daily video. Don’t dress for where you are, dress for where you want to be.
If you want to be a lawyer, dress like a top lawyer in your field.
If you want to be an entrepreneur, dress like a top entrepreneur in your field.
To the best of your ability, dress as if you are where you desire to be.
Always dress like your ideal self.
Doing this will cause your mind to come up to that level. Your mind will begin to believe and take on the qualities of your ideal self.
Not only that, when you dress the part, you gain an extra edge of confidence, you shift your entire attitude. You even approach your day differently
Just try it out one day. Instead of wearing what you usually wear, step it up like it’s a special occasion. Wear a suit or outfit that you know you like and watch how your confidence soars.
Here are a few points that will help you with dressing the part
1. Dress within your budget. Again, dressing well doesn’t mean that you need to spend tons of money. It simply means doing your best within your budget.
2. Dress according to your surroundings. The most important thing about dressing the part is knowing what exactly the part is. If you desire to be a lawyer, and you dress like a hip hop artists during a concert, you may have some trouble with being a reputable lawyer.
3. Always look your best. Dressing isn’t simply a one-time thing. Your life can change when you commit to looking your best all the time. If you don’t have big things going on in your life now, it’s still beneficial to dress like it. To the best of your ability dress as if all of your dreams are a reality
Alright, that’s it! Remember, you dress matters. You create more opportunities and cause others to treat you better when you dress well. You also boost your confidence and attitude. You cause your dreams to come into your life in a faster way. Dream On!
